A Cozy + Relaxing Sonoma Staycation: The Olea Hotel

I stumbled upon The Olea Hotel while doing research for one of my wine country weddings. We were on the hunt for a great lodging spot for the Wedding Party + family members to stay during the wedding weekend.

It’s definitely a boutique hotel, but this place was clearly full of charm and had updated guest rooms combined with my favorite amenities: a spa, outdoor lounging, a pool + hot tub and an included breakfast.

At first glance, I knew this was a lucky find.

I recently was invited to stay and experience the property for myself. I brought my husband along with me, and we accidentally discovered the pieces to a cozy and relaxing getaway in Sonoma.

Here’s a sneak peek at the “regular” guest rooms:

The Olea has 15 guest rooms, and they’re a combination of the standard guest room and cottages. They’re all updated and have modern comforts as well as a few finishing hipster touches including in-room Verve coffee (which I love since I’m a huge coffee drinker). Furnishings and textiles feel fresh, the rooms are super clean and they feel spacious and cozy at the same time.

We stayed in one of the Olea Cottages, which we loved. The mini front patio, double sided fireplace, vaulted ceilings, the natural light from the windows and the spacious bathroom really made it a space we felt we could stretch out in between wine tasting appointments and dining.

This property was a delight, and I absolutely recommend it for my clients and friends - both for a couple’s staycation or a small group retreat or a room block for wedding weekend… and more :)

Included with your stay is breakfast. Keep in mind, this is not your ordinary continental breakfast. Serious thought goes into the breakfast that is served here for guests every morning, you’ll definitely want to want to crawl out of bed for this.

Additional important elements to note:

  • This hotel is dog friendly. You'll definitely want to let them know ahead of time, they have specific rooms that are dog friendly (think area rugs vs wall-to-wall carpeting), but this hotel will definitely allow you to bring your furbabies for your wine country get away.

  • They don’t have wasteful disposable soaps. You’ll find organic dispensers of bath and body products here which for me is a big plus.

  • They have a great spa on property. You’ll need to make an appointment ahead of time but the price is great and I hear great things about the treatments here.

  • The hotel is right near the road but you don’t even notice it when you’re staying here. The rooms are so quiet and comfortable. I loved the easy access to get to Glen Ellen and more.

  • The grounds are so relaxing. Save some time to dive into your favorite book and enjoy a glass of wine. They have a few gorgeous hillside terraces I keep wishing I could have spent more time just enjoying.

  • The staff could not be kinder. You’ll be welcomed with a smile and given a quick tour of the property and then introduced to your room. The staff will help connect you with must visit nearby wineries and eateries.

  • You don’t have to be a guest to enjoy their amazing breakfast or day of poolside relaxation. You can pay a la carte for breakfast, and book a spa treatment and relax poolside and head to your favorite winery right after.

Based on charm, modern furnishings, charming vibe, location and price - this Sonoma hotel is definitely on the top of my list for cozy boutique hotels in Sonoma to stay and share with my clients. I can’t wait to come back and enjoy another night away.
